Happy (almost) Labor Day!
Enjoy a 3 day weekend. Be sure to talk to your kids next week about all of the different ways they can contribute to the common good through pollution and prevention and conservation. Just a reminder that CogAT testing begins on Wednesday. Please make sure students arrive to school on time and have had a great night sleep and breakfast. I have made sure to assure children NOT to stress about this, but please reiterate this to my little worriers :) IOWA testing will begin the following week.

VERY IMPORTANT!! On Tuesday, a permission slip and letter will come home for our first field trip. We are headed to the zoo on Thursday, September 20th. We have an  extremely quick turn around on this, so please fill it out and send it back with the money envelope as soon as possible. Thank you so much for your help with this matter!

Here you will find a link to our class amazon wish list. We are working towards some flexible seating options to better suit the needs of today's learners!

Week 4(ish) is in the books! Our kids are doing a great job adapting to the demands of 3rd grade and rising to the high expectations. I am so proud! We are entering our last 2 weeks of our 1st IB unit and will be focusing on pollution and conservation the next 2 weeks through our literature and informational texts. The third grade team spent some time this week gearing up for our next 2 IB units, and I am so excited for all that our kids are going to inquire and explore.  Don't forget our COGAT and IOWA testing is coming up after Labor Day weekend. Please be sure to have kids in bed early and to school on time. This testing is NOTHING to be worried about and I will NOT make a big deal about it, other than not to stress and do their best! Please see a few announcements below from the attendance committee and the talent show committee!

,Week 3 was wonderful! We had lots of fun continuing to explore how to contribute to the common good and what kinds of character traits good citizens portray through our first IB unit. Please continue to work with your students to transition from learning to read to reading to learn. As we continue to dive deeper into our reading standards, please be sure to ask deep and probing questions about what they are reading. Things that are deeper than "who are the characters?" and "what is the setting?". Instead, you can ask them things like "What character traits does the character portray and how do you know?" This type of deeper questioning will take their reading to the next level! Keep up the great work and have a wonderful weekend :)

We are well on our way! Starting Monday, we are fortunate enough to have one of our Target teachers, Mrs. Husack, pushing into our classroom on Monday mornings to do some talent development work with our class. What an awesome first week (really 3 days) that we had! It has been SO fun to jump back in with this incredible bunch of kids.  It is like we never even left each other and it made me so excited for all this year holds. This week we did lots of team building and classroom environment activities to reestablish our procedures and essential agreements for the year. I have attached some pictures below. And...I brought back the crowd favorite of friendship salad to tie off the week and remind us how important kindness is in our class family.
